A young woman is more likely to have sex when her relationship with the partner is good and when she is interested in having lovemaking. When the relationship is ruined or the sexual interest is lost, it can make her abstinent with lovemaking.
Sexual interest and relationship quality are again the important predictors of resumption of sex, after a period of abstinence. The girls who characterized themselves as irritable, angry or unhappy were unlikely to return to sexual activity after a period of abstinence. Those who are so may finally end up with depression and loneliness, and they tend to resume the sexual activity. The characteristics of this type of resuming depends on how long the girl had been abstinent.
These sexual break ups and resumptions can be prevented if they are given proper counseling, on time, says the psychologists. These types of counseling will also help to prevent the sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies among young women.
The findings have been published in the latest issue of Perspectives on Sexual and Reproductive Health.
